The Chapin High School Pre-Engineering, Computer Science, & Biomedical Science Magnet Program is a certified Project Lead the Way program.
The Project Lead the Way courses are a set of project-based, hands-on experience courses designed to teach students key elements and skills related to technology-based careers, immersing them in rigorous pre-engineering and STEAM related problem solving scenarios.
With a strong partnership concept, PLTW and Chapin High School leverage the collective knowledge and efforts of secondary schools with those of universities and industries to provide early exposure and practical pre-college application of the rigorous, relevant, reality-based math, communication, science and technology concepts required to prepare students for college success while providing them with the skills needed to succeed in tomorrow's engineering or technical fields.

A student admitted to the magnet program remains eligible to graduate as a magnet senior by completing and passing the required program capstone course along with the final senior AP math and AP science courses. Most students who enter the program are freshmen and sophomores; on a case by case basis, juniors are included in the program if their schedules can afford to include the PLTW and CTE courses. Magnet students enter the program understanding that their academic schedules will exceed the graduation requirements for a HB5 with Endorsement & Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA), as outlined in Texas Administrative Code 74.12 and 74.13 AND will include allowable sequences of CTE recommended courses from the magnet program course menu. These courses are based on the national curriculum from Project Lead the Way and the approved Texas approved CTE Programs of Study. |
